GAY VERITE

You envy me because I'm pretty. "Go away" is the echo, "go away from

here for you do not belong, you're

not really one of us."

For you who bid me stay, I am a toy,

a living doll to play with then throw

down or set back on the shelf. I serve as an ego-pleaser, an ornament

for your pride; but you wouldn't dare

think of me in terms of permanence, I'm too high-risk for that.

I have felt love, but what does it feel like to be loved? (No, not love

as in sex, but real love as in security)...

Does anyone out there trust a pretty girl...

trust her enough to keep? Or do you inflict

her with wounds to prevent yourself from bleeding?

I'm seen from the outside, but I wish I

could be seen

inside out

instead, for therein. lies my essence.

Fair exteriors are usually stereotyped:

...

Beware: potential heartache but what about my heart (or doesn't it count?)

Don't waste your energy being jealous of

the pretty ones could have

...

for if you

a set of looks in exchange for your security, you wouldn't trade.
